As priority, even before renovating our own farmhouse we spent a small fortune improving the handling facilities, renewing the gates and fencing to the whole farm. Hours were spent researching new technologies for handling and wintering our animals.
We found Dr Temple Grandin on Google and her innovative design for a curved race. Curved cattle races are more efficient in handling cattle because they take advantage of the natural behavior of cattle. Cattle move through curved races more easily because they have a natural tendency to go back to where they came from reducing stress on the animals, improving efficiency and the Health & Safety of the stockmen and ladies on the farm and our visiting vets.

You will see from the photo above that once into into the race the ladies in the herd naturally want to follow Forrest our resident bull through to the crush where we regularly check their weight, health and condition.
L.M Bateman provided the crush specifically designed for Longhorn cattle, plus the tombstone feeding gates installed in our renovated cattle shed providing with new concrete floors set to falls for free drainage of liquid waste. Bateman’s also designed the other half of the shed with sheep penning and feeders.
